A garden is a planned space, usually outdoors, set aside for the display, cultivation, and enjoyment of plants and other forms of nature. The garden can incorporate both natural and man-made materials. The most common form today is known as a residential garden, but the term garden has traditionally been a more general one. Zoos, which display wild animals in simulated natural habitats, were formerly called zoological gardens. Western gardens are almost universally based on plants, with garden often signifying a shortened form of botanical garden.
Some traditional types of eastern gardens, such as Zen gardens, use plants sparsely or not at all. Xeriscape gardens use local native plants that do not require irrigation or extensive use of other resources while still providing the benefits of a garden environment. Gardens may exhibit structural enhancements, sometimes called follies, including water features such as fountains, ponds (with or without fish), waterfalls or creeks, dry creek beds, statuary, arbors, trellises and more.
The Chinese garden is a landscape garden style which has evolved over three thousand years. It includes both the vast gardens of the Chinese emperors and members of the imperial family, built for pleasure and to impress, and the more intimate gardens created by scholars, poets, former government officials, soldiers and merchants, made for reflection and escape from the outside world. They create an idealized miniature landscape, which is meant to express the harmony that should exist between man and nature.
A typical Chinese garden is enclosed by walls and includes one or more ponds, rock works, trees and flowers, and an assortment of halls and pavilions within the garden, connected by winding paths and zig-zag galleries. By moving from structure to structure, visitors can view a series of carefully composed scenes, unrolling like a scroll of landscape paintings.
The earliest recorded Chinese gardens were created in the valley of the Yellow River, during the Shang Dynasty (1600–1046 BC). These gardens were large enclosed parks where the kings and nobles hunted game, or where fruit and vegetables were grown.
Landscape design is an independent profession and a design and art tradition, practised by landscape designers, combining nature and culture. In contemporary practice, landscape design bridges between landscape architecture and garden design.
Landscape design focuses on both the integrated master landscape planning of a property and the specific garden design of landscape elements and plants within it. The practical, aesthetic, horticultural, and environmental sustainability components merit Landscape design inclusion. It is often divided into hardscape design and softscape design. Landscape designers often collaborate with related disciplines such as architecture and geography, soils and civil engineering, surveying, landscape contracting, botany, and artisan specialties. Design project focus can tend towards: in landscape design - artistic composition and artisanship, horticultural finesse and expertise, and a detailed site involvement emphasis from concepts through construction; whereas in landscape architecture - focus of urban planning, city and regional parks, civic and corporate landscapes, large scale interdisciplinary projects, and delegation to contractors after completing designs. There can be significant overlap of talents and skills, depending on the education, licensing, and experience of the professional. Both landscape designers and landscape architects practice landscape design.
Landscape architecture is the design of outdoor public areas, landmarks, and structures to achieve environmental, social-behavioral, or aesthetic outcomes. It involves the systematic investigation of existing social, ecological, and soil conditions and processes in the landscape, and the design of interventions that will produce the desired outcome. The scope of the profession includes landscape design; site planning; stormwater management; environmental restoration; parks and recreation planning; visual resource management; green infrastructure planning and provision; and private estate and residence landscape master planning and design; all at varying scales of design, planning and management. A practitioner in the profession of landscape architecture is called a landscape architect.
A board of directors is a body of elected or appointed members who jointly oversee the activities of a company or organization. Other names include board of governors, board of managers, board of regents, board of trustees, and board of visitors. It may also be called "the executive board" and is often simply referred to as "the board".
A board's activities are determined by the powers, duties, and responsibilities delegated to it or conferred on it by an authority outside itself. These matters are typically detailed in the organization's bylaws. The bylaws commonly also specify the number of members of the board, how they are to be chosen, and when they are to meet. However, these bylaws rarely address a board's powers when faced with a corporate turnaround or restructuring, where board members need to act as agents of change in addition to their traditional fiduciary responsibilities.
In an organization with voting members, the board acts on behalf of, and is subordinate to, the organization's full group, which usually chooses the members of the board. In a stock corporation, the board is elected by the shareholders and is the highest authority in the management of the corporation. In a non-stock corporation with no general voting membership, the board is the supreme governing body of the institution; its members are sometimes chosen by the board itself.

It's an authentic replica of Ming Dynasty-style Chinese gardens. [Lynn Kelly, Snug-Harbor Cultural Center, Botanical Garden President & CEO]: "The idea was proposed to build a replica of an actual Suzhou Garden right here in New York City but to do outside as opposed to inside in a building." The garden embodies several key elements found in every Chinese scholar's garden. [Dr. Ron Altman, NY Chinese Scholar's Garden Representative Board Member]: "We have a Banana Leaf Gate here. “After years of living in an Edwardian house in Toronto’s west end, the client decided it was time for change. She wanted to remain in her neighbourhood, but she was keen for a smaller home in order to declutter her life and she was excited to engage in the creative process of designing a house. Palmer found a small lot only a block away from her historic home and she approached LGA Architectural Partners to help her build a new home with a modest budget and a contemporary attitude. Simplicity and practicality were of prime importance. LGA designed a neatly stacked trapezoidal box that maximizes the space of the narrow lot and breathes within the generosity of the adjacent laneway. They clad the front and back façades in no- maintenance cedar to warmly greet the street, and the sides with ...

My blog: My portfolio: http://hedu-art.blogspot.ru/p/3d-landscape-architecture.html A well designed property, when developed within 'whole building' design principles, is properly integrated with its' surroundings; must be a good neighbor within the community where it rests to other structures and its natural setting; and should be accessible, secure, and aesthetically pleasing from the outside. Landscape architecture is the professional skill of composing man-made structures, including buildings and paving, with the natural landscape and with designs for landform, water and planting. Landscape architecture and garden design are separate arts with a shared and ancient heritage. Landscape architects share with garden designers a concern for the planning and design of outdoor space. Please SUBSCRIBE and stay TUNED! This traditional Japanese architectural masterpiece portrays a different understanding of architecture and buildings relation to habitants. The building itself is a typical 'machiya' (Kyoto traditional townhouse) that is designated as an architectural heritage by the City of Kyoto at 1743. The building was one of the largest 'machiya' rebuilt in the Meiji period. Guided by beliefs that the devil enters from the north and paradise lays westward, the rooms of the house are organized so that ordinary guests and respected visitors interact with different spaces in the complex, the most sacred of which are located at the very back of the house, where a covered veranda offers a meditative vista of the curated garden filled with 100-year-old moss and tress For ...

Please SUBSCRIBE and stay TUNED! Satoyama in central Japan is one of the most peaceful place where the seasons' rhythms rule - where centuries of agriculture and fishing have re-shaped the land, yet where people and nature remain in harmony. Here - over a thousand years - towns and villages have developed a unique system to make springs and water part of their homes. From inside these homes, the streams pour into Japan's largest freshwater lake, Lake Biwa - an area 5 times the size of Paris - near the ancient capital of Kyoto. This is a habitat so precious the Japanese have a special word for it: "Satoyama" - villages where mountains give way to plains. They are exceptional environments essential to both the people who maintain them and to the wildlife that now share them. Thanks for wa...

The most prominent of these, the versions by Antipater of Sidon and an observer identified as Philo of Byzantium, comprise seven works located around the eastern Mediterranean rim. This BBC documentary from 1970 entitled "The Smithsons on Housing" (produced by B.S. Johnson) follows married architects Alison & Peter Smithson throughout the planning and building phases of their seminal council estate in Poplar, East London; Robin Hood Gardens. Completed in 1972, Robin Hood Gardens comprises two precast concrete-construction slab blocks of seven and ten stories (with an expansive green space in between), giving a total of 214 flats. Built in an uncompromising Brutalist style, with use of 'streets in the sky', the estate experienced a rapid decline after its completion which has largely been attributed to council neglect and lack of investment, but was exacerbated by narratives against this type of architecture at the time (particularly from Oscar Newman and his 'D...

What’s Next? 04 December 2017 When his mother told him that she was looking to buy a prefabricated garden house, Caspar Schols convinced her to instead let him design and build a house for her. After agreeing on the final design, he spent seven months building a kit in their garage. In another month, they put the house together on location with the help of friends and family. In this lecture, the design process, technical details and challenges of the project will be discussed. The completion of the project led to an article on Dezeen and subsequent media attention – all for a project built before Schols entered his First Year of architecture school. In the second half of the lecture, he will share his personal experience at the AA after starting architecture in practice in his mother’s...
